my new,to me,1984 300 turbo diesel, runs great with the exception of slow starting,(consistantly 5-7 seconds on the starter, warm or cold)until I try to go uphill for any length of time ....then it craps out in a hundred yards or so....I pulled the tank and cleaned it with easy off, thru a hole I cut in the top of the tank(with a saber saw and JB Welded it back when I was done)...a bear of a job,but it worked....I believe Easy Off is not much more than Lye in an areasol can....use caution and power wash super good...the screen was totally clogged from the previous owners poor veggie program...
I would like to know anything anyone knows about this 81 RV.
The history is that a Dutch elderly man would bring this RV from Holland to Canada, USA, etc often and on his last trip he said he was too old any longer to do this and left it to a friend (in 2007).
I think I was told it is a 2.4 diesel? It has 331,000 km, the body looks above average & I think it was well looked after. The fellow who it was left to is from Holland and says it is one of the best Diesel Engines ever built (?)
- What is this worth?
- Any things to be on the lookout for?
My car which went from no start to running great for a month after I put in your Ultimate Tune Up Kit has suddenly been experiencing a dead battery. I installed a new battery when happened but the first morning the new battery was dead. I checked the forum and found and followed directions for trouble shooting an 84 300SD battery drain. I recharged the battery, disconnected the battery ground cable and put a test light between the ground cable and the battery negative terminal. The light lit brightly indicating a current drain. I disconnected the alternator plug and again the light lit.
My old Becker radio in the 300d gave up, so I replaced it with something new. Everything seems fine except now it seems I have lost dash lights? Any advice would be appreciated.
Was having hard starts in the cold last week, the glow plug light went out. Ordered the clean=out tool and 5 new glow plugs. Job went smoothly with your instructions. Starts great again, Thanks!

Hi, all; newbie here.
I'm not sure if I've selected the correct chassis number because MB use different classifications of their models over here in Europe; however, I should imagine that the principles would be the same, regardless of location... at least I hope so.
The problem I have is that my beloved Benz (E240 Elegance Tiptronic - 2597cc; registered November 2000) requires a new ignition switch. Enquiries made to dealerships have all quoted me a price of roughly $800 for a new switch and 'Green Key' (apparently needed to programme the new switch into the car's computer).
Here's the $64,000 question: can I use a salvaged switch (cost $40) and programme that into my car using a 'Green Key'?
Please... someone give me the answer I'm hoping for!
I'm unable to use my windshield washer fluid. The end of my turn signal switch doesn't pull out; it seems to be stuck. Anyone else have this problem?
My mechanic wants to replace the entire switch at an outrageous cost, but I'm wondering if there's any way to take it apart and get it functional again on my own.
Month ago My rear brakes went on fire! They told me since the pads were sticked to the disc I need to replace the calipers. Well I did it. I installed brand new calipers change the brake fluid and went driving. 2 miles later I was on fire again. Now they told me it is the cylinder or the booster, but I don't know what should I do!. I need help. please.
I am trying to replace the mechanism that holds the rear of the hard top in place on my 83 380. I loosened the nut to remove the shaft but there is a plastic piece that fits over the locking mechanism that will not allow me to remove the shaft. Does anyone know how to take it off (and replace it when reassembling) without destroying it?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
I have and run for the last ten years a 1985 300TD wagon, about five years ago I replaced the heater fan motor. Now the fuse seems to be blowing frequently. Sometimes I can get it to last a few days, then only a half hour or so. I did notice in the fuse panel someone before me, conveniently painted a little red dot by the heater fan fuse. The fuse in there is a blue one and that's what I've been replacing it with.
Thanks,
Jonathan
