My 82'300d was not charging so I replaced the battery removed the alternator had it tested and it checked fine. The tension nut was missing and the bolt was gound down from rubbing on the pulley so I replaced the bracket, bolt, nut and installed new belts. It started right up and everything seemed to be fine. That was 10 days ago and now it's not charging again. Any suggestions? I'm stumped, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know how to remove the starter from a 1977 450SL motor? I was able to remove the bottom bolt which was accessible, but am having trouble on the top side. And is the solonoid a part of the starter or does that seperate from the starter body? Just want to make sure before I disconnect any wiring.

Does anyone know how to disconnect the passenger side front seat from the power motor so I can adjust it where I want it. I moved the seat all the way back so I could clean & it's stuck in that position so noone can ride in back.
will a transmission from a 1981 300sd fit in 1980 280se with a 126 chassis
I just lost the trim piece (the chrome and rubber strip) from my front passenger side quarter panel on my 1982 240D - it was starting to pop out of its snap attachments and it must have just flown off on the road somewhere. Does anyone know where you can buy replacement pieces of this type? I tried our nearest Pick 'n Pull junkyard but they didn't have any 123 body types.

I just purchased a 1983 240d and noticed it has the aluminum rims
instead of the usual steel rims.
How rare are these aluminum rims ?
Are they worth a lot more than the steel ones ?

My 1980 wagon seems to rev higher than expected at 65mph. I installed a piezo-tach to get a look at engine RPM's. At 65 it runs about 3200 rpm, consistantly. If I count gear changes, I notice 3 shifts (when in Drive - I understand that in D the car starts off in 2nd). If I manually shift from 1st to Drive I count 4 shifts.
Tranny is properly filled, no abnormal noises either. I replaced both the CV shafts and while I was in the rear end nothing looked odd (had 2 split boots, that's why the change was needed).
Hey folks, first time posting, newbie mechanic, just bought a pair of these 1981 300sd turbo diesels, one a (previously) running parts car, the other hopefully a runner, my first cars in 4+ years, my first mercedes, and my first diesels. So, here's my problem.
Okay, I was wondering if any of you guys could help me. I have noticed that my rear end on my wagon looks fine after I have finished driving. However, after some time goes by when I come back the drivers side has dropped down a couple inches. Also, when I drive, sometimes I hear what must be the leveling pump making some noises that sound kind of like Darth Vader breathing or something. I don't know if this means that I have a leak on the system or what. Does anybody out there know what I need to check/fix?
Just purchased subject valve and am want to know if I'm correct to say it is located under cowl vent screen on right side just forward of firewall? How difficlt is it to remove vent screen?
