Diesel Fuel Lubricity

I just bought my first Mercedes a week ago. I have seen and heard quite a bit of discussion about the diesel fuel lubricity of the new low sulphur fuels. Naturally, opinions I have found seem to range from "Hey, it's no big deal", to predictions of doom within the next 12.5 minutes, none of which site any decent sources for their information. The standards of fuel production specify lubricity, but there seems to be some scepticism about how closely the refiners and distributors are adhering to those standards, and for that matter, whether the standards meet the needs of diesel engines.

1983 300d Slow initial acceleration

Kent,

We just moved from Seattle to Colorado. 6200+ altitude. My 1983 300d accelerates very slowly from a stop, but once it is going about 15-20mph, it seems to perform just fine and cruises at highway speed very well. It has been a little slow to start and once and a while idles rough at the start. On my trip here, on some mountain passes, I had it to the floor, but it still could go 70-80mph up the mountain.

So, what would be the order of steps you would recommend to improve this situation? I just got it and have not purged, adjusted valves, or anything yet.

1984 300td wagon transmission reparable?

i am looking to purchase a 1984 300 td wagon that supposedly needs a new transmission...the owner says a month ago it was rocking, great acceleration and power, no signs of wear...then one day, going up hill, the transmission in an instant started having issues..she discovered the transmission fluid was almost all gone...she then added 4 quarts and overfilled it, drove on it for a couple of weeks and had all sorts of transmission issues...brought it to a mechanic who cleaned the fluid and adjusted the transmission and 3 weeks oast with it working ok...
