These are the 4 long bolts that need to be removed when changing your W126 brake rod control joint on your front suspension. There are two on each side. They do not come in the repair kit so if you bolts are very rusty you might want to have these new bolts on hand before you start your repair.

This is something many owner's and mechanics miss. That little check valve on the side of the injection pump can cause a lot of starting problems on the older diesels.
If your shift lever feels loose or is rattling, that is an almost sure sign that the bushing on the transmission shifting lever has disintegrated and fallen out. A new replacement bushing is cheap, but just try to get one installed in the hole in the lever up along side the transmission tunnel.
Many owners are surprised to learn that their early ML's hood can actually be adjusted to go almost straight up. It is not as easy to do as some of the earlier models where you only had to flip a couple levers.
Place this small filter in the hard vacuum line running out of the back of the injection pump and going to your ignition switch under the dash. The filter will do two things. 1. Help to trap oil coming out of a leaking shutoff valve before it gets to your ignition switch. 2.

This handy tool will pull off your harmonic balancer in no time at all without damage. This is a necessary procedure when replacing the front crank seal. Many pullers don't have the right size metric bolts that are needed when working on Mercedes diesels.
If you are going to work on your diesel fuel injectors you are going to need a torque wrench. If you are going to tighten your alloy wheel lug bolts properly you should use a torque wrench. In fact if you do your own work you should have a 1/2 inch clicker torque wrench in your tool box.

Removing the front rubber engine mounts requires getting under the car and going up inside a hole in the subframe to remove the main bolt. And it can be a bear! I don't know who they hired to tighten these at the factory but he must have been a brute.

Some of the most common auto transmission leaks on the early automatics come from the banjo bolts that connect the filler tube to the bottom of the pan and the two transmission coolers lines to the lower front transmission housing.

Kent uses his 1976 240D that had sat idle for 6 years to demonstrate what needs to be done to get an old fuel system cleaned out and serviced properly. This always includes installing new fuel filters and sometimes will require replacing some of the rubber hoses.

Why would you need to remove a fuel tank? If it is heavily rusted or contaminated sometimes it is just easier to find a good used fuel tank and replace it. Trying to clean a heavily gummed up fuel tank is a real challenge.
Car alarms have their place, but on 20 year and older cars Kent is not so sure... When they get that old they can get very tempermental and will usually go off when you least expect it and in places that can cause great embarrassment.
Kent's procedure uses the factory recommended "drip tube method" but with a "twist." He has devised a way to get accurate and consistant IP timing results while trying to get the drip tube to drip at one drip per second exactly when it should!
