Over the years Kent has detailed hundreds of cars and you know from his videos that he likes "extreme" detailing. His absolute favorite two "tools of the trade" are these premium grade microfiber sponges and what he calls his soft bristle "sawed off" paint brushes.
If you own and maintain an older car (especially 15 years and older) you must be willing to take care of its lubrication needs or you may spend big money later in repairs.
If you think you can pull the plug wires of the spark plugs safely on these engines without this tool go ahead and try. Of course you could make your own "pry too" but you are probably going to need metal cutting and welding equipment.
Over the years Kent has used a number of different things to place on top his jack stands to prevent damage and for added security. He has even tried some of the commercially available jack stand plastic covers. Nothing has proven to work better than the special cut reinforced hose shown here.
This is the best one Kent has ever used and he has tried quiet a few kneeling "aids". With 6 wheels this one is strong enough not to break in the middle. In indents with the knee foam are very comfortable.

If you own a 1998 to 2006 Mercedes with a V6 (M112) or a V8 (M113) engine this is one job you will have to deal with at some point. Just pull the top cover off your engine and look.
When cleaning and cosmetically restoring your cars engine and engine compartment, you will need containers for the various cleaners, acids, paints and sealants you might use as well as brushes to apply them.
Kent has been working a long time to find a way to stop the ugly corrosion on aluminum and magnesium engine parts. Particularly valve covers and intake manifolds. Help Kent out here to test this new product he has been using. The kit includes a 1 oz container of gel and a scotch brite pad.
If you are tired of "guessing" on those critical low torque settings maybe it is time to get a small torque wrench. This is the one Kent likes for super low torque settings up. It is quality made and will not cost you an arm and a leg. You can even calibrate it yourself!
When prepping many surfaces on your engine for replacement gaskets or application of RTV sealant it is very important not to scratch the metal. In some cases that can set up corrosion or possible small leaks that will lead to premature failure of the repair.
Kent uses these superb plastic razor blades regularly in his shop. Recently they proved very useful when resealing the magnesium engine breather covers on an M113 engine. There are seven green and three orange in this little package.
If you own a 1998 to 2006 Mercedes with a V6 (M112) or a V8 (M113) engine this is one job you will have to deal with at some point. Just pull the top cover off your engine and look. Even cars with low mileage may have oil seeping out the breather covers on the top of the heads.
How can you tell if you have a hole or leak in your exhaust system? What are the symptoms? Can the leak be patched? When will you have to get either a new center muffler or rear muffler or pipes or all three? Can you replace the mufflers yourself and what are the tricks?
This is one of Kent's favorite tools around his shop. It is used almost daily. The tool rose out of a need to be able to safely hold fuel inectors while cleaning when with a large high speed wire wheel. No tool like this is availabe so it had to be built in our shop!
This is the Permatex Brand Extreme Brake Parts Lubricant. 100 percent synthetic formula with ceramic solids. It resists moisture and corrosion and will not wash out. Lasts longer than any other caliper grease. Silences brake noise across a much wider temperature range.
Leaking fuel injector pumps have become a very common problem in the 60x. engines produced from the mid 1980s to the mid 1990s. The early 60x.
If you drive hard and do a lot of heavy breaking your front wheel bearings should be packed with this grease! Also good for chassis, suspension, cv and universal joints. Made by Valvoline.
Sold in a set of four. These have to be the strongest magnets in the World! You do not put them inside the pan. Rather you spread them out on the outside bottom of the transmission pan as shown in the picture below. Talk about an easy install! You don't even need to jack the car up!
This green colored grease is specially formulated to work on any Mercedes from wheel bearing. Comes in a tube that is enough to do two front wheel bearings and inside hubs. If you drive at high speeds this is your best grease to prevent bearings from overheating.
You can save a lot of money if you can rebuild your old brake calipers, especially on some older models. If you can just get the pistons out of the housings, most calipers are rebuildable, unless they have been subject to road salt or have sat exposed to the weather for years without use.
6 high quality Bosch glow plugs with Special carbon reamer included. This reamer should always be used to ream out the glow plug holes when changing your plugs to improve efficiency and glow plug life.
Enter the dreaded “check engine” light. When it suddenly comes on it can create fear and panic in many a driver. Kent has known some people who have sold their cars cheap because they just did not want to deal with taking the car into a mechanic to get it fixed.
Most D.I.Y. Mercedes owners do not need a $100 to $200 "Check Engine Light" code reader / scan and reset tool.
The primary purpose of this Part 1 introduction is to give you, the viewer an overview of some of the challenges you will be faced with if you decide to replace the head gasket yourself.
When working on automotive engines a long machinist straight edge is a must. This is the best way to tell if the mating surfaces are flat and true. That includes cylinder heads, engine blocks, intake and exhaust manifolds as well as critical sealing metal to metal covers and housings.
A 12 volt test light is a very handy tool to have when working on any car but it is particularly important if you have a old diesel. This tool will allow you to quickly determine if there is power getting to your glow plugs, and if not where the power is breaking down.
Complete set of four cabin air filters only for models listed. Why don't people change their cabin air filters??? Kent has never seen a clean set! Don't believe it, just check out his youtube videos.
The era of performance cabin air filters really began in 1996 with the introduction of the W210 sedan in the U.S. market. By performance, we mean more than just a simple intake air box filter like you saw on the later model W124.
Tired of lugging around heavy batteries or battery boosters to test electrical components in your car? It does not have to be a Mercedes. It does not even have to be a car. Anything that runs off 12 volt DC power can be tested by these small, light weight but very powerful batteries.
We love doing oil changes on these engines. The oil filter housing is right in the front of the engine with NO obstruction. The engineers were finally thinking about us!
New voltage regulator that bolts on to the back of your alternator. This is the common failure point. Do NOT let anyone sell you a new alternator until you inspect or have this part inspected!
This videos covers in detail the removal and replacment of the specialty rear shocks on a 2004 E500. Replacing these shocks are slightly different from removing standard shocks due to the extra electrical connection to the computer.
The voltage regulator is a very inexpensive part that usually wears out between 110,000 to 130,000 miles. It is often neglected and Kent believes many alternators have been replaced over the years when all they needed was a $25 to $30 voltage regulator!!!

When an old Mercedes ( or any other car for that matter ) has sat idle for over a year it can be a challenge to get it safely back on the road again. If it has sat idle for more than 5 years you may find it difficult to even get the engine running.
To many people, automotive electrical systems and testing are a big mystery. It is not as complicated as you might think.
